After four years general training, he was promoted to the position of assistant which he has occupied for one year. During these years, he has taken part both in the Medical and Surgical work of the hospital, and he has had special training in Pathology, in which he is very efficient. Shoka Christian Hospital, Formosa 30th,June 1927 證書中文全文：我特此證明王光胆於1920年4月11日到這家醫院就讀。 經過四年的一般培訓，他被提升為助理職位，並已經擔任了一年。 這些年來，他參與了醫院的醫學和外科工作，並且接受過病理學方面的特殊培訓，在這方面他非常有效率。 他自始至終忠實盡責，值得信賴。 他的品德很高尚。 David Landsborough，M.A； M.D. 彰化基督教醫院，福爾摩沙 1927年6月11日 當年家住高雄後勁的王光胆，從楠梓國小畢業後在台南長榮中學就讀，經萬榮華校長推薦，前往彰化基督教醫院工作，擔任事務員一職。蘭大衛醫生看見他極為認真，因此詢問有沒有意願學醫，王光胆一口答應，於是利用下班時間跟著蘭大衛醫生當學徒，經過四年的學習，終於畢業取的醫師資格。
